Joining & Fabrication Engineering Technology Section

Joining & Fabrication Engineering Technology Section

The Joining and Fabrication Engineering Technology Section at Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian French Institute (UniKL MFI) focuses on developing expertise in welding, fabrication processes, materials performance, and quality inspection for industrial applications. The section emphasizes hands-on learning, practical training, and industry-driven education, ensuring that students gain real technical competencies required by modern engineering industries.

The section integrates both theoretical knowledge and extensive laboratory and workshop practice, allowing students to develop strong technical skills in welding processes, fabrication techniques, and inspection methods. Students are exposed to real industrial practices, standards, and equipment, enabling them to understand how welding and fabrication technologies are applied in sectors such as manufacturing, oil and gas, construction, power generation, and heavy industries.

The academic focus of the section includes several technical areas such as welding technology, quality inspection and non-destructive testing (NDT), and materials analysis and characterization. Students learn about different welding processes, welding metallurgy, defect formation, inspection techniques, and quality assurance systems to ensure the reliability and safety of welded structures and components. Emphasis is also placed on problem-solving, technical analysis, and compliance with international industry standards.

To support the development of competent professionals in this field, the section offers two academic programmes:

  • Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Welding and Quality Inspection (BET WQI)
This programme provides advanced knowledge in welding technology, inspection techniques, materials engineering, and quality management systems. It prepares graduates to take roles in welding supervision, inspection, quality assurance, and technical management in various industries.
  • Diploma in Engineering Technology in Welding (DET Welding)
This programme focuses on the fundamental principles and practical skills of welding and fabrication. Students are trained in various welding processes, fabrication practices, and basic inspection methods, preparing them for technical and operational roles in the welding industry.

Through a practice-oriented curriculum, strong laboratory and workshop training, and close alignment with industry needs, the Joining and Fabrication Engineering Technology Section aims to produce skilled graduates who are technically competent, industry-ready, and capable of contributing to the advancement of welding and fabrication engineering technologies.
